The Master in Sports Journalism is structured into 10 subjects, together with the completion of a Master's Final Project and some curricular practice.
The objective of this module is to provide the student with a solid base on the history of sport, on its evolution, on its adaptation to the times. A base that complements the information that you foreseeably already have, acquired thanks to your own learning as a result of your vocation. In addition, the review of that history will connect with the knowledge of the different events both at the world level (Olympics, World Cups, Europeans Championships, etc.) and at the state level (leagues, organizing committees, etc.), events that for many young journalists are the dream of their professional life.
This module offers students elements of knowledge and experimentation aimed at obtaining journalistic skills in areas related to sport and which are necessary for the development of rigorous specialized journalism. The subject covers two terms. In the first term, the areas studied are: History of Contemporary Sports Journalism (documentary sources and statistics, treatment of historical data for its dissemination); Sports Law (regulation of broadcasts, hiring of athletes, doping), and Ethics and Deontology in sports journalism (general ethical principles, specialized deontology).
The general objective of this module is for students to become aware of the importance of communication to build a good reputation and brand image, whether of a club or of athletes.
This module aims to offer students a theoretical and practical tour of the main currents of journalism in general and sports specificity. The different models of sporting press will be analysed. The subject, which takes up a quarter, will deal in particular with concepts on page architecture, navigation, typography and the various information formats. Photojournalism, infography and illustration applied to sport will be deepened.
This module works independently, but it is the continuation of the subject Sports Culture I, which was taught in the first term. In this second term, the areas studied are: Sports Medicine (safety in sports practice, traumatology), Sports Economics (management of sports companies, club finance, audiovisual rights) and Structure of Communication Applied to Sports.
This module aims to offer a theoretical and practical journey through the main techniques and current models of sports broadcasting, on radio and television. The course will deal in detail with the different professional figures involved in a broadcast. At the end of the module, students will have the necessary skills to present part or all of a broadcast of a sporting event.
The aim of the module is to improve and perfect journalistic writing skills in the sports area. This module is focused on writing reports, profiles, articles, editorials, and critiques among others. The module is conceived as a specialization and professional development workshop in the field of writing. Another essential aim is to offer students a critical vision of professional practice in this discipline, with an exhaustive review of the main authors, as well as to provide the necessary tools for writing in the audiovisual field.
This subject offers knowledge and experience aimed to gain competencies in different areas of journalism growing and expanding due to the new opportunities that Internet and the digital applications bring. This module is organised in different thematic areas that address some of the new trends in sports journalism.
This module will offer students a theoretical, practical, and critical overview of sports journalism that is currently carried out on television. The subject will be taught during the third term and will be essentially practical, with the aim that students make informative audiovisual pieces and a sports program, simulating real working conditions in a media. The course will consist of 20% theory and 80% practice. Students will work basically in the academic campus, but also outside it, going out to carry out practice and informative coverage. The continuous practice will determine the grade for the module.
This workshop aims to offer the student all the tools for their duties on the internet and social networks, understood as sources of information, but also and above all as means of communication of a different nature from traditional ones.
This module is aimed at students who are interested in working on the broadcasting of sporting events in the media anywhere in the world. The workshop will be taught entirely in English. In class, the skills necessary to be able to work in the sports journalism sector will be worked on, with special importance for communication, the specific vocabulary, and the deontological and ethical codes of the journalist.
With the Master's Final Project the students integrate the various subjects of the program by applying the knowledge acquired throughout the course.
Once you have passed the program, you will receive the following electronic degree certification (eTítulo©): Lifelong learning master's degree in Sports Journalism, awarded by Pompeu Fabra University. The eTítulo© will be issued in Catalan, Spanish and English.
