What is the difference between official degrees and our own degrees?

Official degrees are issued by UPF and have the academic recognition of the Ministry of Education of the Government of Spain.

Our own degrees are issued by UPF and do not have the academic recognition of the Ministry of Education of the Government of Spain.

The international prestige of the Pompeu Fabra University guarantees the quality of the courses taken, whether the degrees are official or its own, due to its recognition and academic excellence.

PDF
What is the difference between a master's degree, a postgraduate degree, and a course?

Master's degrees are higher than postgraduate degrees and have a duration of 60 ECTS or more. To access a master's degree, you need to have previous university studies, equivalent to a bachelor's degree.

Postgraduate courses are specific programs of shorter duration than master’s. They last for less than 60 ECTS and to access them you need to have previous university studies, equivalent to a bachelor's degree; although certain programs can also be accessed due to the student's professional experience.

The courses are short programs or intensive training, for which it is not always necessary to have previous university studies.

What study modalities do we offer?

UPF-BSM offers different study modalities so that you can choose the option that best suits you.

  • The on-campus modality requires the physical attendance of students and teachers in our classrooms.
  • The blended mode has part of the content in our classrooms and the other part online.
  • The on-campus&Live modality offers the possibility of choosing to take the classes totally face-to-face or totally remotely. In the programs in which this modality is offered, students must choose how they will follow their program during the admission process.
  • The online modality does not require students to be present in the classroom, and combines synchronous and asynchronous sessions depending on the program.

You can filter our programs by modality in our search engine: https://www.bsm.upf.edu/en/studies

What are ECTS credits?

ECTS credits or European Credit Transfer System is the mechanism designed to homogeneously structure degrees within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). They represent the volume of academic work that a student must complete to finish their studies. One ECTS credit is equivalent to 25 hours, which includes both the time devoted to lectures and hours of personal study, tutorials, seminars, assignments, practices, or projects, as well as the hours required for the preparation and completion of exams and evaluations.

More information can be found on the official website of the European Commission.

How do we position ourselves in rankings?

We are the management school of the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and we share its recognition and orientation towards excellence in teaching and research.

UPF is distinguished by the Ministry of Education as a Campus of International Excellence (CEI) and, according to the THE ranking, it is the 1st ranked Spanish university and the 10th best university in the world among those under 50 years of age (5th in Europe).

In addition, our programs have a great reputation internationally. In 2020 we became one of the ten centres institutionally accredited by the Quality Agency of the University System of Catalonia (AQU), thus endorsing the educational quality of all our university degrees.

In 2021 we obtained the AMBA accreditation that places us among the world's leading management schools according to the Association of MBAs, recognizing the academic quality of our EMBA and Master of Science in Management programs.

What is the difference between curricular internships and extracurricular internships?

The curricular internships are compulsory; they are part of the academic load of a program and are evaluated as a subject. In addition, they must be connected to the field of study of the program, they must be carried out in the period established by the academic plan of the program, and in some cases they can be recognized by proving previous professional experience.

On the other hand, extracurricular internships are not part of the academic load and are not evaluated. Thus, they are voluntary and complementary to studies, although they must also have a connection with the field of study of the program, and must be carried out within the period established in the program.

Then, you must notify your symptoms to your Primary Health Care Centre or by phoning 061, and follow the instructions of the health authorities.

For our part, the program director will contact the program manager to evaluate any contacts you may have had. Consequently, we will inform the other students to take every precaution and monitor for possible symptoms.
