Introducció

The Master of Science in Sustainability Management is organized around four large modules which are developed following the different dimensions of sustainability:

1. Fundamentals of Sustainability
2. Environmental Dimension of Sustainability
3. Economic Dimension of Sustainability
4. Social Dimension of Sustainability

All students must take all the compulsory subjects and choose a total of six optional subjects, among those available in each of the modules. Students will have a tutor who will advise them on their choices according to their personal goals and professional interests.

Students can also undertake curricular internships in companies, which will be recognized as two optional subjects (6 ECTS).

Throughout the second and third term, students will work on their Master's Final Project, in which they must demonstrate the knowledge acquired during the program. During the first term, the teaching load of the Master's Final Project is reduced, since the student is yet to select the topic, and will take support and advice tutorials for its development.

Classes may be held both at the facilities of the UPF Barcelona School of Management, and at those of ESCI-UPF.

Descripció

The assigned tasks will be agreed upon between the organization or company receiving the student and the management of the master's degree, always with the aim of responding to the real needs of said institution or company. The management of the master's degree will check that the assigned tasks are relevant and related to sustainability management. The knowledge acquired throughout the program must be put into practice during the internships in companies.

The 6 ECTS corresponding to professional internships are interchangeable for two elective subjects of 3 ECTS each.

Descripció

Participants must complete a Master's Final Project under the supervision of a mentor. There are two options: in the first, the participant carries out original research that leads to the implementation of a research project related to sustainability. In the second, with a practical approach, the student develops, for example, an analysis or audit applied to an organization, a sustainability implementation manual, a case study, or a strategic or consulting business sustainability plan.

Titulació que s'obté

Once students have completed the course they will obtain the Màster Universitari en Gestió de la Sostenibilitat / Master of Science in Sustainability Management - Máster Universitario en Gestión de la Sostenibilidad / Master of Science in Sustainability Management official Master Degree, awarded by Pompeu Fabra University.

Issuance of official Master's Degrees: The amount stipulated in the DOGC (Official Gazette of the Government of Catalonia) must be paid for the rights to issue the title. This rate varies annually and the rate in force at the time of application for the degree will be applied.

Activitats formatives complementaries

The Master of Science in Sustainability Management also includes the possibility of participating in practical activities and activities for personal and professional growth such as:

Brush-up Courses: these preparatory courses cover business, analytic tools, economics, physical and chemical principles, and environmental subjects. They are designed for students needing a refresher before starting the program and must be completed and passed either before or during the first month of the master's program.
Spanish Course: 80% discount during the first trimester for basic Spanish level. Three hours per week at the Language Service of UPF.
Career Development Program: career sessions and workshops where participants obtain specific training on how to improve their professional profile, approach potential employers, and develop professional soft skills.
International mobility: The UPF Barcelona School of Management offers you the possibility of expanding your training and international vision through the International Mobility Programme. Extend your studies extracurricularly, during the academic year following the completion of your Master's, at a top-level institution. Limited places.
UPF-BSM Inside: is a group of interdisciplinary subjects (applied data, communication, creativity, innovation and project management, sustainability and leadership among others) that, if you take this program, you can access at no additional cost. They are 100% online and you can take them throughout the academic year at your own pace, as they have been designed as self-study subjects.

Bachelor degree

Applicants must have finished or be in the last year of a Bachelor Degree from an accredited university. If you are currently studying the last year of your Bachelor Degree you will need to finish your university studies and provide proof of your final qualification before the beginning of the program.

Proficiency in English

In order to enrol in the Master of Science in International Business, an official English certificate must be submitted.

If you do not have your English Test results at the time of admission, you will be required to provide them two months before the course starts. Admission without an official English certificate will be considered conditional until the certificate is provided.

Applicants whose mother tongue is English do not need to submit the aforementioned certificate.

Sustainability management will be one of the most in-demand profiles in the coming years. Among its main challenges is knowing how to deal with the existing complexity between the current models of production, consumption, and business activity. This is in juxtaposition to a growing environmental and social awareness, and a paradigm shift, led by the change-makers, the Green Transition, the 2030 Agenda, and the sustainable development goals (SDG) of the United Nations.

With this master's degree you will acquire the necessary tools for the management of sustainability in companies, making it compatible with their social and economic interests. You will learn to implement sustainable management of companies and institutions, bringing strategic keys to operationalize concepts such as the circular economy, energy transition, or the SDGs.

The master's degree addresses the three dimensions of sustainability: the economic, social, and environmental dimensions. All this using a logic of practical projects, starting with a solid technical base, continuing with the keys of corporate management and culminating with an effective measurement of the impact, as well as subsequently communicating it to the interested groups (see Program Curriculum and Methodology).

The Master of Science in Sustainability Management is endorsed by Pompeu Fabra University, the 1st Spanish university and the 15th best university in the world (of those with less than 50 years), according to the Times Higher Education ranking. In addition, UPF Barcelona School of Management has EQUIS accreditation, the most prestigious institutional recognition for business schools globally.

The school holds the quality distinction of the Business Graduates Association (BGA), an accreditation that ensures the highest standards in business schools worldwide. The Master of Science in Sustainability Management arises from the union of UPF-BSM and ESCI-UPF. The teaching staff on the master's degree combine their academic activity with participation in chairs, observatories, and projects related to the ecological transition. Throughout the course, professionals from different sectors will be invited to share their experience in the field of sustainability.

To obtain the corresponding degree, it is essential to pass all the subjects, whose evaluation will depend on the respective professors. This may consist of a continuous evaluation, the realization of a task, exercises, final exam, etc. The Master's Final Project must also be passed, consisting of its preparation and defence with a panel of experts.

Regular class attendance and passing the practical exercises and compulsory assignments are part of the evaluation system. Their delivery and preparation criteria will be designated by the teachers who hand them out.

All evaluation activities will be related to each other to follow a logical project.

The Master of Science in Sustainability Management also includes the possibility of participating in practical activities and activities for personal and professional growth such as:

Brush-up Courses: these preparatory courses cover business, analytic tools, economics, physical and chemical principles, and environmental subjects. They are designed for students needing a refresher before starting the program and must be completed and passed either before or during the first month of the master's program.
Spanish Course: 80% discount during the first trimester for basic Spanish level. Three hours per week at the Language Service of UPF.
Career Development Program: career sessions and workshops where participants obtain specific training on how to improve their professional profile, approach potential employers, and develop professional soft skills.
International mobility: The UPF Barcelona School of Management offers you the possibility of expanding your training and international vision through the International Mobility Programme. The Expert diploma in Executive Development in Sustainable Business will provide you with specialized training and analysis tools to generate an overview of sustainable development and environmental management in order to guide the organization, and implement sustainability policies and processes in the field of social responsibility.

In the current economic and social context, executives capable of adequately managing the changes and challenges that this context offers are needed to provide innovative business and organizational solutions from a strategic point of view. As such, the program will teach you to relate the organization's management, processes, policies, and strategy to sustainable development, the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda.

The environmental scenario is already the engine of changes in the environment; furthermore, the next few years will push through a social transformation that will not only affect companies, but also the way we live, produce, trade, and interact. To this end, the program focuses on training the leaders of the green transition through the practical application of substantive and formal managerial functions, within the framework of sustainability.

The aim of the postgraduate course is for experts from the UPF Barcelona School of Management and Escuela del Agua from Agbar to train the leaders of the green transition. And do it through an executive development program that combines technical content with transversal skills for the running and management of companies or departments related to the environmental sector, and which is taught from a strategic, financial, and organizational perspective.

Due to the evident and accelerated change in environmental matters, it is essential that managers involved in decision processes, with an impact on sustainability, learn about tools and trends for the definition of new strategies and business lines (products and services) related to the green transition.

The postgraduate course will prepare you to adequately manage economic and social challenges in the environmental scenario, providing, from a strategic vision, innovative business and organizational solutions to promote sustainable development in your sector. You will learn about green entrepreneurship or intrapreneurship and the importance of developing innovative activities focused on mitigating, reducing, or eliminating environmental problems, as changes in production and consumption patterns advance.

To do this, you will be given the analysis tools to define the general strategic vision of the organization and guide it to the implementation of policies and processes aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the 2030 Agenda. At a technical level, the program will prepare you for identifying and relating relevant information from the environmental field with potential influence on the organization in the short, medium, or long term. In addition, you will learn about the European environmental regulatory framework and its deployment, as well as the challenges of climate change 2030, in order to include or promote green communication and sustainable development within the organization's strategy and align it with the external communication policy.

The program places special emphasis on strengthening managerial and executive skills, in substance and form, through mentoring sessions, solving environmental problems in new or little-known fields, making decisions on sustainable development from limited information, time management, leadership, and effective communication of findings.

With the postgraduate course you will reflect on the potential of digital transformation linked to sustainability and you will obtain the keys for integrating the green transition as a lever of innovation and stimulus for the transformation of your organization through creativity. During the program you will put into practice the detection of business opportunities through business cases.

The hybrid modality format offered by the program combines weekly synchronous classes with individualized online work, which will give you the necessary flexibility to make the training compatible with your professional managerial or executive role, and at the same time connect directly with expert teachers and other participants. The Expert diploma in Executive Development in Sustainable Business, taught jointly by UPF-BSM and the Escuela del Agua, offers you maximum flexibility in order to make it compatible with your professional and personal responsibilities.

The hybrid methodology of the program combines sessions in synchronous mode by videoconference and online modules that you will work on individually.

Each subject is made up of different types of sessions (master classes and synchronous remote seminars taught by experts and professionals in the sector), active methodologies (individual and group practical activities, and personalized access to mentoring) and self-learning methodologies (reading of didactic content online, introductory tests, self-assessment activities, and other learning complements such as complementary bibliographies, related articles, and videos).

Introducció

The Executive MBA is structured over 18 months in which students will participate in core and optional subjects.

We have identified a set of key competencies that favour the professional development of the participants: leadership, communication, co-operation, adaptive thinking, decision-making, and autonomous learning. You will work on these competencies in an integrated and transversal way throughout the Executive MBA.

The MBA is taught in Spanish, but subjects in English can be chosen from among the electives.

Once students have completed the course they will obtain the Máster Universitario en Ejecutivo en Dirección de Empresas / Executive Master in Business Administration EMBA official Master's Degree, issued by the Pompeu Fabra University.

Issuance of official Master's Degrees: The amount stipulated in the DOGC (Official Gazette of the Government of Catalonia) must be paid for the rights to issue the degree. This rate varies annually and the rate in force at the time of application for the degree will be applied.

The Executive MBA also includes the possibility of participating in practical, and personal and professional growth activities such as:

The Outdoor Training is a weekend of disconnection in a mountain hotel, in which team building activities are carried out with the aim of identifying roles and leaders, and improving managerial and team management skills.
The International Study Trips which are work trips in which you will visit the stock market and companies with the aim of learning about new international markets. We have previously visited Shanghai (China) or London (United Kingdom), among others.
The MBA Challenge is a four-day competition in which you will have the opportunity to work on a real challenge from a large corporation. Companies such as La Fageda, the Oncological Foundation of Catalonia, the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, or the Josep Carreres Foundation have already entrusted their cases to UPF-BSM participants.
International mobility: The UPF Barcelona School of Management offers you the possibility of expanding your training and international vision through the International Mobility Programme. Extend your studies extracurricularly, during the academic year following the completion of your Master's, at a top-level institution. Limited places.
UPF-BSM Inside: is a group of interdisciplinary subjects (applied data, communication, creativity, innovation and project management, sustainability and leadership among others) that, if you take this program, you can access at no additional cost. They are 100% online and you can take them throughout the academic year at your own pace, as they have been designed as self-study subjects.

The Executive MBA is aimed at university graduates in any area, although those with a background in Social Sciences, Law, Economics, Business Administration, Science or Engineering are especially valued.

Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of work experience, preferably in roles of responsibility, leadership or team management.
